St. George's Hanworth

The High Altar has a table top (Mensa in latin) which is inscribed with five crosses marking the consecration. The crosses represent the five precious wounds of Christ on the Cross.

Around the Altar is the Retable. The inset circular stones are Derbyshire Bluejohn in orange and purple. Originally, the gables had foilate terminations, of which one remains. 

At the side of the Altar is the Aumbrey. This is a steel safe lined with gilded cedar wood, where the Bread of Holy Communion is kept for Adoration, Communion and the Last Rites. The door is covered with a hand-made copper and silver outer door.

The Aumbrey was given in memory of a young server who died in 1932.

Above the Aumbrey hangs an anitique gilded Lamp - constantly lit - by which we recall the Presence of our Lord in the Bread consecrated at the Altar.

The Lamp was given as a memorial to Canon David Diamond, Rector of St. Paul's Deptford. This is where Fr Paul Williamson served his title as a Curate.
